Orchard Days

Yesterday, the boyfriend, Ryan, and I ran the Savoy Orchard Days 5K. This was my first race of “the season,” and it was not a pretty one. Let’s just say that my summer of low mileage and non-existent speedwork did me no favors out on the race course.

  • 1 – 8:34
  • 2 – 8:37
  • 3 – 8:40
  • 0.1 – 0:56
  • Total time – 26:47

Wow, not very fast! I will point out that at one point, I had to stop and tie my shoe, so I lost some seconds there. More than anything, it acted as a decent, short tempo run for the week with nice consistent mile splits.

Also, the last half mile or so was on a gravel road and uneven grass. Not to mention that the final 0.1 was a charge up a steep “hill.” Yikes.

After the race, Ryan, the boyfriend, and I all collapsed at the top of the hill.

Don’t worry, Ryan! Race season has just begun! 5K redemption will come…eventually.

Even if the race itself was less than stellar, it’s always a fun way to spend a morning, especially when you get to see Randy (and Robb and Van!) from Body N’ Sole!

And, as you can tell from the photos, Saturday turned out to be a beautiful fall day.

  1. Way to go, Mica! It makes me happy to see you enjoying the start of fall, academically and physically! Can’t wait to see you at Thanksgiving break.

  2. I think that is a decent 5K time for running less this summer! I think that is about the pace I ran my 5Ks over the summer and I was still trying to train for something (although have been totally slacking on speedwork).

  3. hey hey now..don’t beat yourself up. i still think it’s a decent time. and i haven’t been running long mileage in forever. maybe i’ll work up the energy to do a long race sometime in the future. ;)
