Sometimes, I see bad movies.

Today was the official first day of Finals Period 2011. To kick things off, I took a Korean exam at 9am. I finished by 9:55am. The rest of the day was devoted to paper-writing.

To reward myself for a successfully completed paper [in a short amount of time], I dragged  Aileen to the opening night of Something Borrowed. This is a cinematic adaptation of some supposedly best-selling book with the same title.

It is also a troublesome text in many ways. Example: In the ending shot of the two main characters walking down the street, holding hands, the female protagonist is also carrying the guy’s dry cleaning. However, you know it’s romantic because the mood music swells to a crescendo. Please, non-diegetic sound, tell me what to think and feel!

I’m not going to lie though. Colin Egglesfield is really, really good-looking.

He is so good-looking, in fact, that I tried very hard to forgive his character’s many shortcomings. I may find flaws in most rom-coms, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t make my heart hurt and give me butterflies in my stomach. Unfortunately, by the time the movie tried to redeem his character, I was already convinced that he was a morally reprehensible and unrealistically spineless twit.

Overall, we had this to say:

Thumbs down

WHAT just happened?!?

If you want another opinion, the four high school girls sitting next to us cried out, “That was SUCH a good movie!!!!!” after the credits rolled.

I hate to admit it, but I love getting swept away in the romantic drama of pretty people. Then I come back down to the ugly reality of finals period.
